Job Description
CLIENT CONDITION: 85 yr old female, 5’ tall, 200lbs, considered total care, heavy care, special care and palliative - She is a left-sided, extensor spastic hemiplegic, dysphagic & immuno-deficient. She also has left-sided neglect, vascular dementia with aggressive, manic, sexual disinhibitory & emotional labile behavior. Further, she has a reverse sleep/wake cycle & could be up for 60 hours then sleep for 2-3 days
WORK CONDITIONS:
Work under pressure, repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, sitting, combination of sitting, standing, walking, standing for extended periods, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting..
DUTIES( include, but aren't limited to, the following:)
• Assistance with all ADLs (e.g., personal hygiene, bowel/bladder protocol)
• Ceiling lift transfers
• Perform basic massage & Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, rehab & chest therapies
• Promote recreational activities indoors/outdoors
• Accompany on outings (e.g., doctor's appts and shopping mall)
• Assist client in swimming pool
• Move equipment to accommodate client’s needs
• Prepare & administer medications
• Obtain body fluid specimens
• Assist during emergencies
• Prepare, cook & serve balanced & nutritious meals & supervise
• Prepare grocery and supplies lists and purchase
• Run errands, e.g., pick up prescriptions or deliver body fluid specimens to lab
• Launder & mend clothing & linens
• Perform light housecleaning & clean equipment
• Travel with family on trips
• Provide companionship
• Perform inventory control & replenish stock of skincare & household products
• Keep records of daily activities & health information
• Assume full responsibility for household (in absence of householder)
• Maintain a safe & healthy environment in and around the home
• Orientate & train new hires and other duties that may arise from time to time
ELIGIBILITY:
1year post secondary credential, caregiver 6mth fulltime classroom training or related field AND 1 year caregiver experience or related (including 6 mths with one employer) in the past three years; Having a nursing background, Certificates in Food Safe & WHMIS, experience with geriatrics, challenging behaviours, dysphagia, seizures & strokes are definite assets
SAFETY/SECURITY:
Medical/Fitness checkup within the past 12 months, mandatory annual Influenza immunization, Criminal Record check within the past 3 mths, Two recent work &/or school references
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Reading text, document use, numeracy, writing, oral communication, working with others, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, job task planning & organizing, significant use of memory, finding information, computer use, continuous learning
OTHER: 30-hr work wk min., 12-hr shifts, 730AM – 730PM & vice versa, must be emotionally & physically strong, healthy & fit, able to multi-task & can work without supervision. Position open to CDNs, PRs, Foreign Nationals, Int’l students & Persons with holiday work visas; though preference will be given to persons already in the Lower Mainland. This is a live-in position & you would be required to reside in our home the duration of employ. Under the new TFWP regulations, private & furnished accommodation with locks shall be provided at no charge.
